What is PTE Academic?
The Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic) is a globally recognized English language proficiency test, designed specifically to assess and validate the English language skills of non-native English speakers who wish to study or work in English-speaking environments. The test's format and design are meticulously structured to measure a test-taker's ability to understand and use the English language in academic settings. Understanding the PTE Exam's format is crucial for candidates aiming to achieve high scores.
PTE Exam Format Overview:
Speaking and Writing (77 - 93 minutes)

This section assesses the candidate’s speaking and writing skills and is divided into several parts:

  1. Personal Introduction: Although not scored, this part allows you to introduce yourself. The recording is sent to institutions along with your score report.
  2. Read Aloud: Test takers read a text aloud.
  3. Repeat Sentence: Listen to a sentence and repeat it.
  4. Describe Image: Describe an image that appears on the screen.
  5. Re-tell Lecture: Listen to or watch a lecture and then summarize it.
  6. Answer Short Question: Answer a question based on something you hear.
  7. Summarize Written Text: Read a text and summarize it in one sentence.
  8. Essay: Write a 200–300 word essay on a given topic.
Reading (32 - 41 minutes)

This section evaluates the test-taker’s ability to read and understand written English, through formats such as:

  • Multiple-choice questions (choose single or multiple answers).
  • Re-order paragraphs.
  • Reading: Fill in the blanks.
  • Reading and writing: Fill in the blanks.
Listening (45 - 57 minutes)

The listening section tests the candidate’s ability to understand spoken English and includes:

  • Summarize Spoken Text: Listen to a recording and write a summary.
  • Multiple-choice questions.
  • Fill in the blanks.
  • Highlight the correct summary.
  • Select missing word.
  • Highlight incorrect words.
  • Write from dictation.
